The 2018 Audi RS 5 Coupe is a much better Tourer than a sports car, but if you lower your legs you are grumbling like a fantastic pack of power and an angry bear. However, even though the M4 and C63 S Coupe are going to be trickier, everyone looking for a four-door alternative to Audi’s M3 and C63 was lucky. Until now. Meet the 2019 Audi RS 5 Sportback.
Essentially the RS5 sedan, the RS 5 Sportback takes everything we like from the A5 and S5 versions and adds even more performance to the equation. Under the hood is a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V-6 that produces 444 HP and 443 lb-ft of torque. According to Audi, the Sportback RS, which is compatible with the eight-speed automatic and rear-impact four-wheel drive system, hit from 4 seconds in 5 seconds to 60 seconds in less time. Like a cup, the maximum speed is 155 mph. Add the optional Dynamic Plus package and increase the maximum speed to 174 mph. For comparison, the S5 Sportback uses a V-6 turbocharged 3.0-liter, which allows 354 hp and 369 lb-ft to reach 60 mph in 4.5 seconds.
Audi says it lowered the RS 5 Sportback for about a quarter of an inch and redesigned the standard of front end sports suspension to improve both steering and handling. But as we have found with the RS 5 coupe, the enhanced suspension with Dynamic ride control is the one you really want. The way it works to minimize the body roll makes it worth the added cost.

There are not many surprises in terms of design. If you are already familiar with the rest of the series, the RS 5 Sportback looks as you would expect. However, as far as the S5 Sportback is already attractive, it’s not a bad thing. And although the 2007 RS4 has always had a special place in our hearts, there is no debate that the rear cover offers much more practicality than a sedan with a traditional body.
Audi has not said anything about the prices yet, but we expect the RS 5 Sportback to be marketed this year when it goes on sale in the US.
