Given that the revised e-tron and e-tron Sportback look with minimal camouflage, the rendering above is likely very accurate.

The facelifted E-tron will go on sale in late 2022. Soon after it will be joined by the slightly smaller e-tron Q6. The E-tron itself will be replaced by an all-new model in 2026, namely the Q8 e-tron.

2023 Audi E-Tron Review

Audi is currently in the process of facelifting the e-tron SUV. Despite being a decent EV SUV, it didn’t sell well and its performance range/numbers weren’t on par with other segments, especially the Tesla Model X and BMW iX.

Audi knows this, and is preparing a few updates to try and keep the e-tron relevant until the e-tron Q8 replaces it in a few years’ time. However, I expect the Audi e-tron to get more updates than we can see in this new spy photo, as the changes seem minimal.

In these new photos, you can see Audi’s e-tron SUV doing some winter testing in the snow. It wears enough camouflage to obscure most of its updates, so it’s hard to see how many there are or what kind of difference they make.

The headlights look the same as the current car but the grille looks different. Instead of the vertical lines of the current Audi e-tron’s grille, the new one seems to get a horizontal oval, which looks a little more modern.

However, the rest of the car looks almost identical to the current car. The wheels, side cameras and taillights are all familiar design elements of the Audi e-tron.

To be honest, we’re not entirely surprised that the e-tron’s facelift will be minimal. As outdated as the e-tron was under its skin, it remains a car that looks great and feels familiar to Audi customers.

Unfortunately, the interior is nowhere to be seen in these photos, which is a shame because I wish Audi had added a little pop to it. As good as the cabin of the Audi e-tron, a bit dark and a bit boring.

It takes a bit of spice to keep up with its new rivals, especially the iX, which has a great interior. Some upgraded tech, some new trim options, and maybe even a new steering wheel will make the e-tron feel updated.

However, what I most hope will happen is for Audi to update its battery and powertrain technology. Right now, you’re in luck if you get 220 miles of e-tron, even after the latest update.

However, both the BMW iX and Tesla Model X can go 300 miles or more. Audi needs to update powertrain efficiency, as well as power, or it will lose customers faster than they gain, which will be the death knell for the Audi e-tron.

If Audi can increase the range, even to over 250 miles, increase the power a bit, and refresh the cabin, it’s possible that Audi will find more sales before it’s replaced.

2023 Audi E Tron Changes

Audi’s flagship electric SUV, the e-tron, is poised for a facelift in the second half of 2022 alongside its sibling e-tron Sportback, bringing subtle visual tweaks but important technical updates.

The two different prototypes retain the camouflage wrap on their body parts that are likely to change in 2022, while being equipped with small diameter aero flywheels and snow tires.

The redesigned front bumper will feature a new Singleframe grille with a honeycomb pattern, and different intakes. Camouflage on the front/rear fenders, and side sills, could hint at a new style for plastic cladding.

As this is a facelift, interior changes will likely be limited to new trim options, updated software, and more ADAS systems installed as standard. As a reminder, the e-tron was initially launched in 2018, followed by the e-tron Sportback in 2020.

The most important changes in the e-tron facelift will occur under the skin. The added efficiency update for 2021 sees the range increase to 222 miles. The mid-cycle update is relied upon to build the reach more like 300 miles. The E-Tron Sportback as of now has an EPA-appraised scope of 218 miles. It ought to likewise get something more like 300 miles with this update.

Audi was relatively early among established automakers to launch a credible rival Tesla when it first launched the E-Tron.

The current 95 kWh battery provides only 249 miles (400 km) of range in the UK.

The E-Tron Q6 is expected to launch in 2022, being developed alongside the new generation all-electric Porsche Macan. For the US, the E-Tron model will likely see an increase in reach, although don’t expect as much as advertised in Europe.

The reason is, the US EPA has a more stringent testing regiment. The current range of the E-Tron is 222 miles (357 km). In the next 18 months we will see many automakers introduce several new electric vehicle models.

The updated design only works as the underlying technology continues to improve, so there will be little surprise from Audi if it is to keep the E-Tron competitive.
