2024 Audi A6 Say hello to Audi’s first electric sedan to the masses: the A6 E-Tron. This isn’t Audi’s introduction to the EV world.

The designation goes to both the E-Tron SUV and the fastback E-Tron GT—but this new electrified version of the A6 will be the automaker’s first low-slung EV that the automaker expects to make accessible to Audi’s traditional mid-range luxury buyers.

2024 Audi A6 Review

Audi’s e-Tron family of electric vehicles will expand to include an executive sedan. It will bear the A6 moniker, with the suffix e-Tron added to its name, and will be sold alongside its ICE-powered sibling for several years.

We’ve seen some spy shots of the model these past few weeks, with prototypes camouflaged on public roads, and at the Nurburgring, doing their thing. However, the wrapper has been unofficially opened, with a peek at Kolesa putting their photo editing skills to good use.

The CGI shared in the image gallery above is based on last year’s Audi A6 e-Tron Concept, and features both the front and rear ends seen in testers.

As such, the car features a split headlamp, a closed grille, a normal center air intake incorporating a radar in the center, and two side vents.

Identical to the show car, the profile will have a less curved roofline behind the B-pillar on the original A6 e-Tron. At the rear, it has been envisioned with wide LED taillights, separated by the brand’s corporate logo.

Also, it’s worth noting that the trunk lid looks a lot sportier than it used to be, or so it was leaked earlier. The placement of the reflector on the rear bumper looks just right, although it will likely have a different shape. The wrapper has also been peeled off from the diffuser.

Understood to share the PPE platform with the Q6 e-Tron and Porsche Macan, the A6 e-Tron may get the same dual motor assembly.

The battery-electric RS 6 may also exist, though if it does, then it should be offered solely as a plantation, with Audi also presenting the A6 e-Tron Avant Concept last month.

Shooting at the likes of the Mercedes-Benz EQE and the upcoming BMW i5, the A6 e-Tron may debut sometime next year, as a 2024 model.

2024 Audi A6 Preview

Audi Alpine testing continues with a new batch of images from our spy photographer showing the all-electric e-Tron A6 sedan being developed high in the mountains of Europe.

Again wearing frustrating camouflage, a little beyond the general form of the car looks. As before, the split headlights are accentuated by the cover, but upon closer inspection, we can see that the lower lighting elements appear to be rearranged from the camo.

That suggests that, as we have long suspected, the car’s fascia will look like the A6 e-Tron concept with lighting elements located in the intake brackets at the front end.

The lower air intake still looks quite bulky, signaling that Audi’s single-frame grille will shrink to the task here on this electric vehicle.

The prototype also rocked dark new wheels with what looked like sensors on the hub we’ve never seen before and no doubt collects valuable data for automakers.

Audi first unveiled the e-Tron A6 concept last year and the car will be the same size as the conventional A6.

However, otherwise, it will be significantly different, as it is based on a completely different platform.

The all-electric sedan will be supported by the highly versatile PPE architecture, which was jointly developed by Audi and Porsche and will be used in a variety of different vehicles, from tall crossovers to hunker-down sedans like the A6.

Audi says the e-Tron A6 concept has 470 hp (350 kW/476 PS) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque thanks to a pair of motors on both axles. The automaker is also planning to make an RS version of the vehicle that will blow us away with its performance figures.

Expected to be sold alongside the internal combustion A6, the A6 e-Tron will also get an Avant (or wagon) variant as the automaker flirts with a very attractive concept model.

The sedan you see in the picture here is not expected to be revealed until 2023 as a 2024MY vehicle in North America.

2024 Audi A6 Performance

Audi is planning single and dual motor variants of the A6 E-Tron, meaning both rear-wheel and all-wheel drive.

That would position the upcoming electric A6 in a dedicated company in Audi’s historic garage, given the automaker built its name on AWD traction.

In terms of the A6 E-Tron Concept, Audi showed off a two-motor AWD setup, which makes 469 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. With this setup, Audi claims 0-60 mph in under 4.0 seconds.

EV makers generally avoid station wagon body styles, with one or two exceptions. But fans of the long-roof model received an unexpected gift this week when Audi unveiled the A6 Avant e-Tron concept, following up on the A6 e-Tron sedan concept from 2021.

As the name suggests, the A6 Avant e-Tron is an Ingolstadt midsize electric station wagon. It sits on the PPE platform that will support a number of larger offerings from Audi and other VW Group brands.

At 16.3 feet long, the concept has a spacious rear cargo area paired with the sedan design we saw last year, which doesn’t try to be too manly in profile, thus saving usable space inside.

Intended to be seen as a luxury model, this concept is described as “production-oriented,” which is evident from the very complete look of the design itself. Audi says that this is “not just a simple design exercise,” explaining its intention to put this model into production once the electric A6 arrives in 2024.

“With the Audi A6 Avant e-Tron concept, we are offering a true-to-life look at future production models on our new PPE technology platform,” said Oliver Hoffmann, a member of Audi’s technical development board.

“We’re not just electrifying Avant’s 45-year history of success. What we want most is to use our technical skills to add an exclamation point.”

Boasting a dual-motor layout, the sleek concept delivers a combined output of 469 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque, drawing juice from a 100.0-kWh battery that is, by comparison, slightly smaller than the flagship Mercedes-Benz EQS.

So this isn’t meant to look at a mid-range EV by any means—Audi says that this version of the PPE powertrain delivers 435 miles of range in the WLTP cycle, which is the 700-kilometer target Ingolstadt is aiming for. in Europe.

Not carrying the stocky body of an SUV certainly has its own advantages.

Talking about the range, Audi says that the 800-Volt system concept will be able to handle a 270 kW charge, which will allow it to get enough power in 10 minutes to cover a distance of 186 miles or 300 kilometers.

How close is this concept to something we might see somewhere in 2024, if not in the US?

2024 Audi A6 EV

The Audi A6 E-Tron electric sedan is in development on some scenic mountain roads. This test video gives a close-up look at the upcoming EV.

The production-spec A6 E-Tron bears a strong resemblance to the four-door concept. There are minor tweaks like increasing the size of the bottom of the split headlights. Corner inlets are less prominent on the road-going version.

The trapezoidal opening in the middle of the lower fascia is larger.

Development engineers seem to be torturing brake testing during a portion of this video. The A6 E-Tron flashed the emergency lights and drove slowly down the mountain. Sometimes the brakes squeak.

The resemblance to the Audi A6 E-Tron concept is most visible when looking at the vehicle profile. There’s a streamlined roofline with a curved shape that runs down the short rear deck. The specifics are hard to see due to the camouflage, but there seems to be a fine chisel along the sides.

The A6 E-Tron rides on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) platform. We don’t have any info on the production-spec powertrain yet. The concept has an electric motor driving each axle for a total output of 470 horsepower (350 kilowatts) and 590 pound-feet (800 Newton-meters).

Audi estimates this is enough to hit 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) faster than 4.0 seconds.

The production model battery is also a mystery. The concept has a 100-kilowatt-hour package that offers an approximate range of over 435 miles (700 kilometers) in the WLTP test.

The fast charging system runs up to 270 kilowatts, which means plugging in for 10 minutes can provide a range of up to 186 miles (300 kilometers).

The A6 E-Tron will debut in production form later this year and will join Audi’s lineup for the 2024 model year. A wagon version is also coming, but this one may not be on sale in the United States.

Audi A6 Battery 2024

The A6 E-Tron will run on a 100-kWh battery pack and is expected to reach even further range than the E-Tron and E-Tron GT SUVs can offer. The EV can only deliver a maximum EPA rating of 222 miles and 232 miles, respectively.

For the A6 E-Tron, the German manufacturer claims a range of over 435 miles on the European WLTP cycle; expect a range north of 300 miles here in the US on the EPA cycle.

The A6 E-Tron will be capable of charging up to 270 kW, which means its battery can suck up 20 kW of power faster than the fastest Tesla Supercharger can. If you can find a 270-kW station, a mere 10-minute charge can add 186 miles of range.

New Audi A6 Spyshot 2024

Despite not getting much attention, the Audi A6 remains one of the most handsome offerings in the mid-size sedan segment.

Now it’s about to be updated, and luckily it looks like the designers aren’t going to mess with the car’s styling.

The current A6 arrived in 2018 as a 2019 model. We expect an updated version to be revealed later this year or early next year, most likely as a 2024 model (the Audi S6 2023 has already been announced).

The arrival of the updated A6 should precede the new A6 E-Tron that Audi previewed in concept form at Auto Shanghai 2021. The electric A6 is due in 2023, most likely as a 2024 model as well.

Our latest spy shot shows a prototype for an updated version of the regular A6, with testers showing new internals in the headlights at both ends, plus new patterns for the grille and front intakes.

There is also a new design for the rear fascia.

Similar tweaks should feature on the latest versions of other members of the A6 family, including the Avant and Allroad wagons, and the performance duo S6 and RS 6.

It’s unclear what updates Audi is planning for the A6’s cabin and powertrain. Updates to the infotainment system and more performance to some of the powertrains are both possible.

The US may also finally get the A6 plug-in hybrid option offered overseas.

2024 Audi A6 Engine

The current base powertrain in the US is a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 with 248 hp. Above this is a 3.0-liter turbocharged V-6 with 335 hp.

Next up is the S6 with a 2.9-liter turbocharged V-6 engine producing 444 hp and at the top of the list is the RS 6, available in the Avant wagon only, with a 4.0-liter turbocharged V-8 engine developing 591 hp.

Interestingly, we heard that the upcoming A6 E-Tron will also get its own flagship performance RS 6 E-Tron.

The plug-in hybrid option A6, which as noted above is only available overseas, combines a 2.0-liter turbo-4 with an electric motor for a total of 367 hp.

2024 Audi A6 Price

While Audi’s first wave of EVs came with an aspirational pricing strategy—the E-Tron GT starts just north of $100,000 we anticipate a more reasonable pricing strategy with the A6 E-Tron.

Our expectation is that the entry-level single-motor A6 E-Tron with rear-wheel drive will start at around $55,000.

According to Audi’s timeline, the A6 E-Tron is not far off. The company will debut its production version in late 2022 and the model will hit dealerships at some point in 2023.
