When Audi introduced the first generation Q3 to Europe in 2011, I had some idea that the compact crosses were about to be the new hot merchandise, but could not have predicted how hot it would become. The first-generation Q3, developed just before the Volkswagen group changed to modular architectures, was not originally intended for the American market, but America’s insatiable appetite for sports UTEs impelled Audi to bring A version of it here at 2014. Although it was already an aging product by the time it arrived, the Q3, however, connected the hole in Audi’s alignment in the United States, even if the competing bids were stronger. This time, Audi is better prepared to meet the small global demand of CUV with the new 2019 based on Q3 MQB.
The new model is a thorough redesign, and it shows. Even if you’re like me and you barely remember what the old Q3 looks like, just one look is all it takes to notice that the design is now much more Butch. Audi’s distinctive octagonal grille dominates the front end and is flanked by a pair of LED headlights that tilt inward. The body is also shapelier, with the most prominent shoulders, Audi “Quattro blisters, ” and a dredged tailgate that ditches the cover design of the previous model.
The look is not the only thing that has changed, of course. The MQB switch also comes with increased dimensions. American product planners had a great reason in developing the model 2019, which is one of the reasons why it is 3.8 inches longer and sports more than SUV-like proportions. Because Americans like a big back seat, the wheelbase grows by 3.0 centimeters, and you feel winning most in the second row, which also benefits from the sliding seats 5.9 inches for even more space for the legs.

Both engines will come with an automatic eight-speed transmission and traction on all Quattro wheels. Audi says he has no plans to sell a front-drive version.

We sampled the most powerful 2.0-liter engine, which Audi expects to be the United States alignment volume, salesman. For a crossover, the Q3 handles surprisingly well. There is less body balancing that would be expected given the higher center of gravity, and the turn-in is relatively sharp. The steering is light in comfort mode, but it becomes subtly heavier in dynamic mode. In any case, the direction feels a little artificial, but it is always necessary. That precision was welcomed on the narrowest mountain roads we drove. On the expressway, the ride was comfortable even on 20-inch wheels wrapped in wide, low-profile summer tires 255/40r20 Hankook, although the lack of cushioning feet was more remarkable as the road got rougher. Audi says that a summer tire in this size will be available in the United States, but it might not be this exact model. Our market will also get a slightly different suspension configuration, with the U.S.-spec models lifted 0.7 inches at the front and a half inch in the back.
Our test car also came loaded with such extras as the optional 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster of Audi virtual cabin and the largest of two Infotainment displays of MMI touchscreen. This system is essentially the same as the one on the A6 and the A7 minus the lower screen used for climate control. The single screen is sensitive and looks sleek with its dark graphics. I like that you can access any menu within a couple of touches from any screen, even when you run Apple’s play.

The interior design is modern and attractive. In the typical Audi fashion, the cab lines are straight and Underdeclarado. On the front, the Q3 features exclusive floating door handles and a mix of premium and not-so-premium materials. Some plastics feel VW-grade, which would be perfectly well in another kind of car, but here it emphasizes that this is the entry point to the Audi brand. Choosing the optional Alcantara lining will help you to forget that fact as it covers the door and board panels in a soft, rich micro chamois feel that is available in a variety of colors. Audi is still completing packages for the U.S. market but says Alcantara will be available. All U.S.-spec Q3s will get leather seats, a panoramic roof, and a basic digital instrument Cluster standard. The Smarter virtual cabin screen is optional and is recommended if you are driving in a foreign country on unknown roads, as it can show turn-by-turn directions from the navigation screen.
The 2019 Audi Q3 takes the big steps necessary to be competitive in the category of compact luxury crossover more and more Cutthroat. Instead of a heated Eurocentric model adapted for our market, we are receiving a product that is specifically designed to attract American tastes and capture U.S. sales, and the new Q3 must do both good.
