2024 Audi Q8 mid-size SUV has received a mid-cycle makeover, which includes a sleek new appearance and improved lighting technology. The revised Q8, revealed on Tuesday as a 2024 model, will debut in U.S. showrooms early next year in base and sporty SQ8 trim levels. The high-performance RS Q8 will also be updated and will be available later this year.
The redesigned Q8 has a larger grille that gives the vehicle a more aggressive appearance. The lights have also been updated on both ends and now include Audi’s next-generation OLED technology, which allows for four different daytime running light patterns.
The high beam is illuminated by matrix LEDs and a laser light. There are also four taillight patterns available, as well as a proximity indicator feature when parked that activates the lights when a vehicle approaching from behind comes within 6.6 feet. The feature is already available in the Audi A8 and Q5.
The refreshed Q8 also features new colors and wheel designs, as well as a revamped S Line package that more closely mimics the look of the SQ8, which was also introduced on Tuesday.
Audi has also introduced new interior trim options, including new dash accents made of wood and carbon fiber. The infotainment system has also been updated, and third-party apps such as Spotify and Amazon Music are now supported. Audi has also updated several of the driver-assist graphics in the digital instrument cluster, which are now all in full HD quality.
The main difference in the powertrain is the installation of a 48-volt mild-hybrid system as standard equipment for all V-6 engines. Peak power, on the other hand, hasn’t changed, since the US model’s base turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 retains its present 335-hp rating.
The SQ8 retains its twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 engine with a top output of 500 horsepower. The engine includes cylinder-deactivation technology, which saves fuel by turning off four cylinders during low-load driving. According to Audi, the driver is oblivious to the switching procedure.
The RS Q8’s specifications have not been released, although the performance flagship should continue to be powered by a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 rated at 591 horsepower.
Detailed specifications, including pricing, for the 2024 Q8 range in the United States will be disclosed closer to the market debut next year.
The Q8 E-Tron, an improved version of the previous E-Tron electric mid-size SUV, is also part of the new Q8 lineup. When a makeover is delivered later this decade, the entire Q8 series will go electric.

2024 Audi Q8 Review
The 2024 Audi Q8 two-row is a dramatic version of the more boxy Q7 three-row SUV, with a sleek look and ride to match. Both have the same solid underpinnings, such as a 335-hp turbocharged V-6 engine, eight-speed automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive, but the Q8 starts at a higher speed.
The Q8’s chassis and acceleration are a blend of sweet and spicy, but this luxury SUV isn’t afraid to guzzle gasoline. The Q8, like other sporty-shaped SUVs such as the BMW X6 or Mercedes-Benz GLE-Coupe, prioritizes comfort with its luxurious interior and high-tech steering.
There’s also the 500-hp SQ8 and the wilder 591-hp RS Q8, but we’ll cover each of those high-powered models separately.
- Audi redesigned the Q8 for 2024 with a slimmer grille, more expressive headlights, and larger air intakes.
- The turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine in the Q8 and the twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 in the SQ8 are unchanged.
- The 2024 Q8 and SQ8 will be available in the United States this winter, with full pricing and specifications for the United States to be announced soon.
What’s New
The upscale Audi Q8 from Audi receives extensive changes for 2024, including a new look and equipment. Redesigned front and rear aprons, new optional Matrix LED headlights, new wheels, colors, and seat stitching are all part of the Q8 updates.
2024 Audi Q8 Refresh
The 2024 V-8-powered Audi Q8 and SQ8 have sleeker styling and new LED headlights. Audi has updated the Q8 SUV with sleek headlights that are neatly integrated into the wide grille, similar to the electric Q8 e-tron.
Audi’s flagship Q8 SUV will receive a minor facelift for the 2024 model year. revisions to the new Audi Q8 and SQ8 were recently revealed in Germany, although upgrades for the American-spec cars (which will likely be very similar to the revisions seen here) are still not official. The as-yet-unknown RS Q8 upgrades will definitely be revealed at a later date.
The redesigned grille features an updated octagonal cutout and new intakes for both models, and Audi claims that these changes are meant to differentiate the SUV from lesser variants.
Audi also added some changes, including the addition of three new paint colors to the rainbow: Chili Red, Ascari Blue, and Sakhir Gold. This is accompanied by a five-wheel design with diameters ranging from 21 to 23 inches.
The changes on the inside are also unnoticeable. There are nine total inlays available, as well as new seat options.
Other hardware updates include new LED headlights and optional matrix LED headlights. You can also order new Matrix HD LED headlights with a high laser beam (although these are still not legal in the United States).
- Audi updates the Q8 and SQ8 with a new face and colors, with information on the RS Q8 to follow later.
- The less expensive two variants get a new safety feature as well as new lights.
- Pricing for the United States will be announced later.

2024 Audi Q8 Interior
Audi has created a stylish and durable environment inside the Q8 in typical Audi fashion. The materials are of high quality, and the panels are well-aligned.
While the entry model lacks luxury options such as four-zone climate control and a leather dashboard with contrast stitching, it does have heated front seats and a panoramic sunroof as standard.
Only the top-tier model comes with massaging front seats, better leather surfaces, and quieter dual-pane glass. All of these, plus a head-up display and configurable interior lighting, were available in our test vehicle.
The Q8 is not only visually appealing but also has ample passenger space. Despite the higher height, the driving position remains sporty, and two adults can stretch out in the back.
Despite the fact that the two-row Q8 has less cargo space than the three-row Q7, we were able to fit eight carry-on bags under its rear seats. With the split rear seats folded almost flat, that number increases to 23 (two fewer than the Q7).
Audi Q8 with optional air suspension, which can lower the rear to aid luggage loading and unloading. The Q8 has minimal storage space on the inside. With a short center console bin and thin door pockets, we had few options for storing small items.
Connectivity and infotainment
Every Q8 is equipped with a state-of-the-art infotainment system that includes a pair of clear touchscreens built into the dashboard and center console. The screens respond to touch inputs with haptic feedback, rather than the intuitive rotary controller found on other Audi models.
We got used to the logical menus and large icons quickly, though distractions are inevitable. Fortunately, responsive voice instructions and comfortable steering wheel controls allow for alternative operations. Wi-Fi hotspot is standard, as are Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Wireless charging and two different Bang & Olufsen audio systems are available as options. We particularly liked the standard digital gauge cluster (dubbed the Virtual Cockpit), with its customizable settings and excellent navigation.
2024 Audi Q8 Engine Performance
Each Q8 is equipped with a 3.0-liter turbocharged V-6 engine that produces 335 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. The car is equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. A 48-volt hybrid assist system helps with stop-start operation, which we found to be very smooth and quiet.
Although the Audi has ample overtaking power on the highway, the car seemed timid around town unless we pushed the foot all the way down. The transmission reflexes are mostly compliant, but the transmission and engine work best in Dynamic mode, which produces sharper answers. We only wish the engine and exhaust made a more aggressive sound.
While the car can change direction quickly and swerve around corners, it’s less entertaining than Audi sedans like the elegant A7. The Q8’s steering requires little effort and provides linear input, which is pleasant on long trips but tedious on twisty roads.
Our test vehicle had the optional air suspension and 22-inch wheels instead of the usual 21-inch wheels. Even on bumpy roads, these large rollers are largely quiet. Our Q8 was agile in tight areas and able to conquer bumpy terrain thanks to its adjustable ride height and four-wheel steering (available with the Adaptive Chassis option).
The brake pedal is easily adjusted at highway speeds but has an uneven response in traffic. Nonetheless, during our emergency braking test, the weighty crossover was able to reduce speed from 70 mph to zero within 170 feet.
Capacity for Towing and Payload
When fitted with the Towing package, the Audi Q8 can tow up to 7700 pounds.

2024 Audi Q8 e-Tron
For 2024, the electric Audi Q8 e-tron received a stylish update that included a sharper grille and new lighting features. With slimmer headlights and a restyled grille, the German carmaker is now revamping the gas-powered Q8, bringing the sporty crossover in line with its electric cousin. The high-performance SQ8 returns in 2024, powered by a 4.0-liter V-8 engine.
The outward modifications to the 2024 Q8 are minor, but they add up to give the crossover a sleeker, more beautiful front appearance. The grille is less chiseled than before and flows gently into the headlights, similar to way the grille integrates into the lights of the Q8 e-tron. The air intakes in the front bumper have been increased in size, and a new exhaust arrangement is standard across the series. The SQ8 also has a reworked front spoiler and rear diffuser, as well as aluminum accents on the grille, sideview mirrors, and air intakes. Optional upgrades include gloss black window trim, bumper trim, and grille for a more ominous appearance.
Audi also redesigned the Matrix LED headlights, and the Q8 will be available with high-tech laser lights that extend the range of the high beams. On top-spec vehicles, the daytime running lights may be switched between four different lighting profiles via the infotainment screen, and the rear light bar has been simplified and can now be ordered with Audi’s digital OLED lighting units.
The gas-powered Q8, like the electric e-tron variants, now has its model name and trim level displayed on the B-pillar. There are five new wheel styles available, ranging in diameter from 21 to 23 inches. The Q8 will now be available in three additional hues, including the eye-catching Sakhir Gold shown below. The Q8 features numerous new materials on the inside, and Audi has enlarged the range of apps that function with its infotainment system, including third-party apps like Spotify.
The same turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine powers the Q8, sending 335 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque to all four wheels via an eight-speed automated transmission. The engine is additionally aided by a 48-volt hybrid-assist system, which recovers energy while braking, smoothens the start-stop feature, and allows the car to coast for up to 40 seconds with the engine turned off.
The SQ8 retains its twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 engine, which produces 500 horsepower and 568 pound-feet of torque. The S variant, like the other Q8s, has an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive, but it also has a torque-vectoring rear differential and active anti-roll bars. The Q8 continues to come standard with steel spring suspension, but buyers can upgrade to adaptive air suspension and rear-wheel steering to make their SUV more agile. The SQ8 comes standard with air springs, adjustable dampers, and rear-wheel steering.
The updated Q8 will go on sale in the United States this winter, with pricing and more full U.S. specifications to follow. We don’t foresee a significant price increase for the 2024 model, with the Q8 expected to start around $75,000 and the SQ8 likely to start in the high-$90,000 range.
2024 Audi Q8 MPG
The EPA has not released estimates for the updated Q8, but last year’s model had lower EPA numbers than comparable all-wheel-drive competitors.
The government expects that the 2023 Q8 will get 18 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. The Q8 we drove on our highway fuel efficiency route, on the other hand, was well above the EPA highway ratings, returning 28 mpg over 200 miles.
2024 Audi Q8 Price
We chose the Audi Q8 Premium trim and added some options. The car already has a fully digital gauge cluster, built-in navigation, leather upholstery, heated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, and a power-operated tailgate as standard equipment.
While 21-inch rims are standard, we recommend the Black Optic package for a sportier look. We would also add the Convenience package and Towing package (blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, wireless charging, and other features). This last package allows the Q8’s maximum towing capacity of 7700 pounds with the predicted price range reached:
- Premium $75,895
- Premium Plus$79,995
- Prestige $83,995
2024 Audi Q8 Release Date
There is no official information regarding the release schedule of the 2024 Audi Q8. However, we expect the launch date of the 2024 Audi Q8 in the United States to be set in the first quarter of 2024.
Verdict
The 2024 Audi Q8 SUV is Audi’s flagship that will get a slight facelift. Changes to the new Audi Q8 and SQ8 have just been released for Audi’s top SUV in Germany. However, updates for the American-spec cars (which will likely follow the changes seen here) are still not official.
