2024 Audi Q8 we all know someone who’s a little cooler, and in the case of the three-row Audi Q7 SUV, it’s the Q8 a more stylish two-row fraternal twin that shares the same basics. The Q8’s proportions are wider, shorter, and lower but the dramatic design sacrifices rear seat headroom, passenger capacity, and cargo area to the Q7 as the Q8 is only offered as a five-seater in two rows.
Power comes from a 335-hp turbocharged V-6 engine with an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive, the same powertrain as on the top trim level of the Q7. The 500-hp SQ8 and the crazier 591-hp RS Q8 are reviewed separately. The excitement experienced while driving the Q8 is the benefit of sharing the platform with the Bentley Bentayga and Porsche CayenneSUV.
The Q8 chassis balances sharp, convincing handling with a supple ride. While not as athletic as other “SUV coupes” like the BMW X6 or Mercedes-Benz GLE coupe, it’s still fun to drive—and certainly doesn’t look out of place. It’s also a cheaper alternative to the A8 full-size luxury sedan priced at just over $15,000.
The Audi Q8 2023 receives additional standard equipment such as matrix LED headlights, ring headlights, and animated illumination on approach or departure—meaning the exterior lighting elements dance happily for you. The Q8 Premium Comfort Package now includes adaptive cruise control with fixed lane assistance.
The Executive Package for the Q8 Premium Plus adds double pane glass to help soothe the cabin. The new interior package adds faux leather to the dashboard for the Premium model, as well as armrests and center console to the Premium Plus trim. The Audi Q8 supports a coupe-like style with pleasing performance and lots of luxury features and technology. The high price tag and a few compromises, however, prevent it from becoming an overall favorite in its class.
Audi’s flagship Q8 SUV is the most expensive non-electric SUV in the brand’s lineup. It’s a sportier version of the three-row Q7 but only offers two-row seating. As well as being comfortable and stylish, the Q8 provides plenty of power and space and packs impressive technology.
The digital instrument panel and dual touchscreen infotainment system give the interior a high-tech and modern feel. The Q8 also has a large towing capacity. For added power and performance, there are the SQ8 and RS Q8 are reviewed separately.
The Q8 is an all-in-one luxury SUV, but there are a few downsides to consider. It can’t hold as many people as the Q7, and the infotainment system may be difficult for some to use.
Limited outdoor visibility and subpar fuel economy were other drawbacks we encountered during testing. The 2024 Audi Q8 Premium 55 TFSI Quattro is the upcoming SUV in the US. The Audi Q8 Premium 55 TFSI Quattro is powered by a 3.0-liter Turbo V6 Gas engine that produces 335 hp @ 5700 rpm and 369 lb-ft @ 2800 rpm of torque with an 8-speed All-wheel drive automatic transmission. In other Audi SUV news, the Q8 model line (including the S and RS variants) will receive an update in late 2023 with a 12-volt mild hybrid system and improved infotainment. The Q7 line will get similar changes but has been pushed back to 2025.
The popular Audi Q5 will have its last major redesign in 2025, which will remain in production until 2033 when the brand discontinues all ICE vehicles. Finally, a redesigned Q3 is expected in 2024 with a mild hybrid setup.
On the sedan side, the A8 likely won’t receive any updates before production ends. The A7 lineup will be updated in 2025, while the A6 family will get driver assistance technology upgrades and mild hybrid systems in the second half of 2022. The A4/A5 line will be updated in 2024, but the A3 will not be updated. updated until 2025.
2024 Audi Q8 RS
Audi reserves the RS badge for its highest-performance vehicles, and the RS Q8 is the ultimate version of its top SUV model, the Q8. Despite having a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 engine like the lesser SQ8, the RS Q8 distinguishes itself with a whopping 591 horsepower and aggressive looks that give it plenty of road presence.
Performance is excellent and almost as impressive as the RS Q8’s much more expensive sibling, the Lamborghini Urus, which shares a lot of components under the skin. The interior features the same technologically advanced layout as the other Q8 models; Luxurious materials such as supple leather and faux suede abound. Priced well above $100,000, the RS Q8 isn’t cheap but as a luxury performance SUV that does it all, it meets heady costs.
Minor changes for 2023 include a new standard electric-powered sunshade for the rear windows and more Nappa leather for the interior. The parking assistance system is now included in the optional Executive package.
The RS Q8 has a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 engine that produces 591 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque compared to the SQ8’s 500 horsepower and 568 pound-feet. The RSQ8 engine is paired with Quattro all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission, and there’s also a 48-volt hybrid system working behind the scenes to improve fuel efficiency.
In November 2019, Audi set a record on the Nürburgring race track with a camouflaged RS Q8 prototype. When we tested the RS Q8, it hit 60 mph in just 3.2 seconds, just 0.1 seconds behind the much more expensive Urus.
The five-seater cabin of the Q8 RS is largely the same as the Q8, though it has some special trim pieces and sportier, more aggressive front seats to hold you in place when cornering.
There is also the RS logo sprinkled throughout. Passenger and cargo space remains unchanged from the regular Q8 model, meaning plenty of legroom and headroom for adults in both rows of seats. In our tests, the Q8 accommodated eight carry-on luggage behind the rear seats and a total of 23 suitcases with the rear seats folded.
2024 Audi Q8 Interior
In a distinctive way, Audi has created a sophisticated and robust environment inside the Q8. The materials are premium, and the panels are expertly aligned. While the base model misses out on high-end features like four-zone climate control and a leather dashboard with contrast stitching, this model has standard heated front seats and a panoramic sunroof. Only the top-of-the-line models offer massaged front seats, upgraded leather surfaces, and quieter double-pane glass.
Our test vehicle had all of that plus a head-up display and adjustable ambient interior lighting. The Q8 is not only visually impressive, it also has more than ample passenger space. The driving position remains sporty despite the high altitude, and two adults can relax in the back. Although the two-row Q8 has less cargo volume than the three-row Q7, we managed to fit eight carry-on bags behind its rear seats.
That number rises to 23 (two less than in Q7) with the folding rear seats folded almost flat. Our test vehicle has an optional air suspension, which can lower the rear to help lift luggage in and out. Inside, the Q8 has limited storage space. The shallow center console compartment and narrow door pockets left us with little space to store small items.
With a pair of clear touchscreens integrated into the dashboard and center console, each Q8 offers a state-of-the-art infotainment system. Instead of the intuitive rotary controller found on other Audi models, the screen responds to touch input with haptic feedback. We quickly assimilated with logical menus and large icons, but distractions were unavoidable.
Fortunately, acceptable voice commands and convenient steering wheel control provide alternative operations. Standard features include Wi-Fi hotspot and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Wireless charging and two different Bang & Olufsen audio systems are optional. We really liked the standard digital gauge cluster (called Virtual Cockpit), with configurable settings and great navigation.

Audi Q8 Engine 2024
Audi provides each Q8 with a turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 that produces 335 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. It’s paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and Quattro all-wheel drive. The 48-volt hybrid assist system assists in stop-start operation, which was smooth and quiet during our experience.
While the Audi has plenty of power passing through on the highway, it feels wobbly around town unless we hit the gas pedal. The transmission has mostly compliant reactions, but the transmission and engine work best together in Dynamic mode, which triggers a faster response. We just wish the engine and exhaust made a bolder sound.
Although it quickly changes direction and obediently moves around corners, it is less attractive than Audi sedans, such as the sleek A7. The Q8’s steering has light power and linear feedback, which makes long trips relaxing but boring on curvy roads. Our test vehicle had optional air suspension and sported 22-inch wheels 21-inch is standard. These big rollers are mostly quiet even on uneven surfaces.
With an adjustable ride height and four-wheel steering (included with the Adaptive Chassis package), our Q8 is agile in tight spaces and capable of tackling choppy terrain.
Its brake pedal is easily modulated at highway speeds but suffers from inconsistent reactions in traffic. Still, it took the hefty crossover from 70 mph to zero in a competitive 170 feet during our emergency braking test.
Audi Q8 MPG 2024
The Q8 has a mediocre EPA estimate that’s lower than its other all-wheel-drive rivals. The government estimates the Q8 is good for 18 mpg city and 23 highway.
The Q8 we took on our highway fuel economy route greatly exceeded its EPA highway rating, however, delivering 28 mpg over 200 miles. The equipped BMW X6 also delivers 29 mpg. For more information on Q8 fuel economy, visit the EPA website.
