2022 Audi A4 hello loyal friends of the audicarusa.com website after going through a substantial facelift in 2018, we don’t expect the next-generation Audi A4 Sedan to be the best in design.
The guys from Ingolstadt will likely play it safe by making subtle revisions to the current design. QuattroDaily friend Tobias Büttner decided to clear his crystal ball to try and see into the future of a revamped mid-range luxury sedan.
We think the style-wise influence of the new A3 Sedan fits its larger sibling quite well and we like the intricate design of the headlamps with the modules split into two rows.
The next-generation Audi A4 likely won’t arrive at dealerships until the 2022 model year, so it will be a little bit before we see the spy test vehicle.
Until then, however, two new renderings from artist Tobias Büttner are previewing what the then-popular Audi model might have looked like.
It is doubtful that Audi will radically change the style of the next A4 from the current design, instead of taking an evolutionary approach to improve the appearance of the model.
2022 Audi A4 Preview
Details about the next A4 are scarce as Audi just announced an update for the A4 2021 in May.
However, some early rumors are hinting at what could change and what will remain the same.
A report from last year said Audi would keep the next-generation A4 using the current MLB platform, instead of moving it to the company’s front-engine layout MQB architecture supporting other Audi models such as the A1, A3, and TT.
2022 Audi A4 Rendering
The A4 style in rendering doesn’t stray too far from the current design. However, this car was much tidier and firmer than today’s cars. It still features Audi’s large grille flanked by reworked intakes on the edges of the front bumper and tweaked headlights.
The A4 rendering also gives the car a side view while the rear receives a new design with new taillights. The car looks longer and lower than the previous model.

It’s too early to speculate on powertrains, although the automaker added 13 horsepower (10 kilowatts) and a 12-volt light hybrid system to the model’s four-cylinder engine for the 2021 model year. The company’s Quattro all-wheel-drive system also comes standard across all A4 trims.
Entering a new generation of models, those changes are likely to carry over, particularly light hybrid systems as automakers continue to focus on saving fuel and emissions.
We hope to learn more in the years to come as Audi begins testing and developing the next-generation A4.
2022 Audi A4 Exterior
While the exterior is unlikely to change, we expect major changes in the cabin where Audi will probably ditch the MMI tablet-style infotainment system that most other models have ditched.
The touchscreen will likely be neatly integrated into the dashboard and we wouldn’t be surprised if the traditional climate controls would be replaced by a secondary touchscreen mounted lower in the center console as seen on the larger models.
Nearly a year ago, a rumor from Automobile Magazine surfaced about Audi considering (up to a point) during development the possibility of downgrading the next-generation A4 from its base MLB to the cheaper MQB platform.
It seems that the top brass has finally decided not to turn the A4 into a luxurious Volkswagen Passat by keeping the MLB hardware with the longitudinally mounted engine rather than switching to a transverse layout.
Why is this even a matter of debate? Well, the bean counters at the VW Group are relentless in their quest to make cost cuts, and the MQB-based A4 will reportedly save the auto conglomerate more than $ 1 billion.
That didn’t happen because Audi was concerned that using less sophisticated hardware would weaken the A4 brand and stands for.
The next-generation model is known internally by its codename, B10, and is said to look like a sportier, shorter A6 thanks to a design that seemed to receive “big applause” when shown to Audi executives.
We should get an idea of the A4 design next year when we expect to see a spy photo with a prototype undergoing public testing.
2022 Audi A4 Engine
On the engine side, we hope the Audi A4 2022 can continue with the same light hybrid powertrain setup. Although it is too early to speculate on the powertrain specifications of the Audi A4 2022.
However, we anticipate that Audi will not discontinue the light hybrid powertrain anytime soon, as electrification results in better fuel economy and lower emissions, which is the current call.
Also, the Audi A4 is getting the standard Quattro AWD drivetrain for 2021, which is also expected to run until 2022.
