2022 Audi E-Tron GTR Audi is in a lively atmosphere because it celebrates 10 years of V8-powered R8 with a special edition of Decennium, but the future of the supercar is doubtful.
Originally introduced in 2006 with a V8 engine, the Lamborghini Huracan sister model from Ingolstadt has entered the second half of the second generation life cycle, which means it will still be around for several more years.
what will happen after that? Well, the R8 can get the proverbial ax if a new report from CAR is trusted.
They have it with good authority. Audi will effectively kill the aspirated R8 naturally and replace it with another completely different performance car.
Reportedly called the “E-Tron GTR,” the coupe will try to succeed where the E-Tron R8 fails by becoming a sustainable product in the Audi EV portfolio.
An undisclosed source close to Audi’s agenda told CAR the new electric supercar would offer a combined output of 650 horsepower coming from three electric motors.
The E-Tron GTR is said to use an all-wheel-drive system and utilizes a 95-kWh solid-state battery pack that provides enough juice for 300 miles (483 kilometers).
You don’t need pesky cables to “charge” the battery because the car is expected to benefit from a wireless charging system.
The car is said to come from the same platform that supports the upcoming Porsche Taycan electric sedan later this year, and will reportedly feature an aluminum monocoque chassis that keeps the weight maintained.
Performance must be at the hypercar level, at least in terms of acceleration, with sprints from stopping up to 62 mph (100 kph) rumored to take more than two seconds.
2022 is still a long way off, so we’ll take this detail with a pinch of salt. It will be a sad day when the high spin V10 will be stopped, but electrification is the future and will eventually spell the end of the internal combustion engine.
2022 Audi E-Tron GTR News
The successor of the Audi to its popular R8 to exchange the supercar V10 engine for a battery-electric motor system designed in partnership with the manufacturer of EV Rimac has emerged.
According to Car magazine, the German carmaker plans to call Rimac, the Croatian EV company behind the 1,900bhp C Two hypercar, to carry out “a large chunk of development work” for the rumored RS e-Tron supercar.
Audi intends that Rimac supply “four-motor powertrain and fast-charging batteries” from thee-Tron RS, according to the magazine.
The German company, meanwhile, will handle the rest of the car assembly at the Bollinger Hofe factory near Heilbronn, Germany.

While the company has not yet confirmed the relationship with Rimac, the rumors are consistent with Rimac’s existing partnership with other carmakers.
The Croatian company has become an “ally” of Porsche and is believed to be in talks with Lamborghini, both of which are owned by Audi’s parent company, Volkswagen, the mag added.
There is still a long way to go until the car hits the showroom. Thee-Tron RS, previously known as the e-Tron GTR, will not arrive until 2022, so there is plenty of time to take the V10 model before they retire.
Meanwhile, here are the latest rumors and unconfirmed reports about the successor to the R8:
2022 Audi E-Tron GTR Price
It’s hard to say right now, considering that the car won’t arrive for several years.
The R8 currently costs around £ 130,000, making it one of the cheapest supercars on the market. But if thee-Tron RS comes with advanced technology that is not available in other vehicles, the price may be much more expensive.
2022 Audi E-Tron GTR Release Date
Thee-Tron RS is expected to be launched in 2022. However, it is not yet known whether the electric supercar will appear in concept form, or if that’s when the production model hit the showroom.
2022 Audi E-Tron GTR Design
Although the details about the e-Tron RS are thin on the ground, Audi has released several concept cars recently that give us clues about what the EV supercar looks like.
For example, the PB18 e-Tron concept is seen as a first glance at what the R8 successor looked like when it appeared at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in California last year, Autocar reported.

This concept displays the central driving position and radical aerodynamics which serve to increase stability at high speeds. The vehicle also uses a brake design such as housing and the Audi Sport logo that shines on the bottom of the door.
2022 Audi E-Tron GTR Performance and Range
Audi insiders told Car that the e-Tron RS will be built on a Porsche J1 production platform, the same architecture that supports the new Taycan electric car.
This platform will allow Audi to install a 95kWh solid-state battery, which is more compact than the lithium-ion batteries found in most EVs today. Sources say that the battery will be connected to four electric motors, producing a total power output of around 650bhp.
The 300-mile range was also mentioned, such as wireless charging, Motor1 said.
But thee-Tron RS is still in its infancy, so this specification may change later in the development of the car.
