The standard A4 makes a great starting point. Comfortable, full of features, and very high quality. Audi’s technological features are as good as anything for sale; the digital gauge cluster display is always impressive. Ride quality is not so strong that passengers will complain.
Yet the S4 delivers on the letter in its name — it’s downright sporty. Speed is one thing, but the handling is even better. Quattro AWD provides excellent grip and quietness, especially when the available rear differential is equipped. Accurate steering makes placement easy, but the non-linear brake feel takes some getting used to.
In its latest iteration, the S4 maintains its status as a leader among compact luxury sports sedans.
Audi S4 Avant 2022 Review
The Audi S series has always been an executive sedan with some added power and punch and the S4 is the entry-level for that particular category. This provides some extra luxuries and features over the already luxurious A4 as well as more power and better handling. It is intended for someone who wants to drive fast and enjoy their drive without being flashy or while not making a lot of noise and not seeking attention.
The 2021 Audi S4 is also exactly what one would expect from an S car. It delivers impressive performance that can compete with its rivals which include the BMW M340i, Mercedes-Benz AMG C43 Sedan, and the Infiniti Q50 Red Sports Seda.
The Audi S4 2022 is a carryover variant straight from the outgoing model year and is still attractive in many ways including interior luxury and real-world performance. The S4 is powered by a 3.0-liter V-6 engine like the previous generation and has delivered the same power figures since the 2020 model year.
The Quattro all-wheel-drive system with a limited-slip differential makes handling a piece of cake for the current S4. The interior is quite familiar to the previous year’s model, but the aluminum trim has been replaced with some faux carbon-fiber interior inlays that enhance the sporty look. Well, the 2022 S4 is a low-performance sedan, especially for adults.
The 2022 Audi S4 isn’t particularly appealing for a sports sedan, but its understated approach to high performance will suit drivers looking for a stealth performance car. As a sportier version of the regular Audi A4, the S4’s turbocharged engine has six cylinders instead of four, producing a solid 349 horsepower, though its mellow soundtrack will soothe some and discourage others.
While the Audi isn’t as fast as the BMW M340i sedan or Mercedes-AMG C43, the fast-paced eight-speed automatic and standard Quattro all-wheel-drive help deliver fast acceleration. The S4 smoothly goes from peaceful to fun, but its driving behavior is just entertaining rather than dazzling. While not very roomy, the interior is beautifully laid out, and the trunk is spacious. The 2022 S4 is a simple and sporty alternative for an adult audience.
The 2022 Audi S4 is expected to arrive in the same three trim lines as the 2021 model. The trim will be named in Audi’s signature fashion, namely Premium for the base trim, Premium Plus for the mid-level variant, and the top variant named Prestige. Pricing is expected to start at around $51,545 for the Premium trim while the Premium Plus trim will be priced at $55,145.
The high-end Prestige trim will likely start at around $59,845. The following table shows the detailed differences in features between each of the Premium Plus trim along with the Black Optics Package adding titanium alloy wheels with a 19-inch 5-V-spoke-star design would be the best choice according to price and aesthetics.
It is a mid-level trim and comes with many additional features over the base Premium trim. The B&O sound system in the highest Prestige trim can also be added to this trim for an extra $999. Overall it is the best choice in the Audi S4 lineup.

2022 Audi S4 Rendering
The next-generation Audi A4 likely won’t arrive at dealerships until the 2022 model year, so it’ll be a bit before we see a spy test vehicle. Until then, however, two new renderings from artist Tobias Büttner preview what the popular Audi model will look like when it arrives. It’s doubtful Audi will radically overhaul the next A4 from its current design, instead of taking an evolutionary approach to changing the look of the model.
Details about the next A4 are scarce as Audi just announced an update for the 2021 A4 back in May. However, there were some early rumors hinting at what could change and what would remain the same.
A report from last year said Audi will stick with the next-generation A4 on its current MLB platform, instead of moving it to the company’s front-engine layout MQB architecture that underpins other Audi models such as the A1, A3, and TT.
The A4 style in rendering doesn’t stray too far from the current design. However, it was much more chiseled and defined than today’s cars. It still featured a large Audi grille flanked by reworked intakes on the edges of the front bumper and revamped headlights. The A4 renders also give the car a sculptural side while the rear receives a new design with new taillights. The car looks longer and lower than the previous model.
It’s too early to speculate on powertrains, although the automaker is adding 13 horsepower (10 kilowatts) and a 12-volt mild hybrid system to the model’s four-cylinder engine for the 2021 model year. The company’s Quattro all-wheel-drive system is also standard across all A4 trims.
Going into the new generation of models, those changes are likely to carry over, especially to mild hybrid systems as automakers continue to focus on fuel economy and emissions. We look forward to learning more over the coming years as Audi begins testing and developing the next-generation A4.
2022 Audi S4 Interior
Audi is the benchmark for interior quality, and the S4 is further proof of this. Each cabin is decorated with extraordinary materials and standard features such as diamond-stitched sports seats with massage features.
Along with the perfect fit and finish, the interior is vibrant and luxurious. The flat-bottomed steering wheel, direct controls and highly adjustable seats provide an excellent driving position.
However, we found the comfort of the front seats reduced by the pillows being too stiff. The S4 has the quietest interior in our tests, which also contributes to its calm demeanor—for better or for worse.
Despite having 13 cubic feet of luggage—tied up for the smallest in its class with the C43 sedan—the S4 has an impressive amount of luggage. While interior storage is average, the sedan can store a variety of luggage and personal items as long as it’s not too bulky. Compared to the Infiniti Q50 Red Sport 400, Audi is a much better travel companion. We just wish the S4’s rear seats were bigger and the front passenger space was more spacious.
Audi fits every S4 with a central 10.1-inch infotainment screen and plenty of infotainment options. Along with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, the MMI systems we tested responded quickly to commands and had easy-to-use controls. When within the driver’s line of sight, certain areas of the screen must be tilted forward to reach. Unfortunately, the S4 no longer includes a rotary controller in the center console, which helps make the system easier to operate.
The interior won’t surprise you as it has been largely unchanged since 2017. That said, the cabin is still a good place to live and comes with a number of features and luxuries. The dashboard feels soft-touch and beautifully crafted, and the 10.1-inch infotainment screen is standard. A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster is offered at higher trim levels.
The screen offers a lot to customize and displays a lot of information including navigation. The seats are wrapped in leather, and you will find all chairs to be comfortable. The front seats offer 8-way power adjustment with 4-way lumbar support, multi-level heating, and massage function as standard. The back row has comfortable seats and can easily fit two adult adults.
Similar to the A4, the S4 also has a spacious and comfortable cabin. Both rows offer a good amount of head, shoulders, and slightly compact legroom which is really good for this segment. Although, getting in and out is also quite convenient as the door opens quite wide.
Taller people may struggle with back headroom, but 35.7 inches of legroom will make things easier. Also, there are 12 cubic feet of luggage space that will help pull a few backpacks or two large suitcases along with other light luggage. Some of the prominent interior features are as follows:

The infotainment system on offer is Audi’s MMI which is one of the most intuitive and sophisticated at the same time. The S4 2022 gets a more refined system and still retains the 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment screen along with the 12.3-inch driver information display.
As standard, the feature list is quite large and includes a 10-speaker audio system, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, WiFi connectivity. The Prestige trim has some “prestigious” features such as a 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen surround sound system, MMI plus navigation, and a 360-degree camera.

2022 Audi S4 Exterior
As a modern Audi, the new S4 2022 looks quite aggressive, but it hasn’t changed since the 2020 facelift. The exterior of the S4 is notably distinguished by the aluminum treatment at the front and rear.
That said, the matrix-style LED headlights and DRLs still look sharper and more unique than their competitors. The intake grille is a honeycomb-style mesh design and is quite large.
Also, note that the S4 doesn’t have actual brake cooling vents like the A4, which is disappointing, and if you opt for the larger optional brakes then you may not be facing the best braking performance. A powered sunroof also comes as standard.
The rear features similarly designed LED taillights that match the style of the front with a faux rear diffuser and a chrome-tipped quad exhaust system. The sedan sits on a set of 18-inch alloy wheels and can be upgraded to 19 inches.
In terms of exterior dimensions, Audi is similar to other sedans in its segment. Ground clearance is unknown and will be around 5 inches. This car is also not the heaviest at 3,847 pounds.

2022 Audi S4 Engine
The S4 is powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged V-6 that produces 349 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. With output routing an eight-speed automatic transmission to standard Quattro AWD, the S4 performs a 0-60-mph sprint in 4.2 seconds. The fuel economy on the S4 2022 should be similar to that of the 2021 model, which is rated at 20/28 mpg city/highway.
Audi’s rally racing legacy lives on in its highest-performance cars, equipped with Quattro AWD. The S4 is no exception; it sends power from the turbocharged V-6 to all four wheels. In addition to the upgraded powertrain, the S4 is distinguished from the A4 by a quad-tipped exhaust system and a sports suspension that lowers ride height by 23 millimeters.
The optional S Sport package adds brake calipers painted red and, to be more precise, a differential that actively distributes power between the rear wheels.
All S4s come with a 349 hp turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and Quattro all-wheel drive. Although the version we tested was faster than most of its competitors, engine response and exhaust noise, two very important characteristics of a sports sedan, weren’t great, you have to be careful, expect an engine and a lack of manuals. gearbox, the V6 offers a big boost on demand, a smooth transition between relaxed and responsive.
The automatic gearbox is also impressive, having a reaction that seems so responsive, we found that the urge to turn to ourselves was removed. Looking at the numbers, the S4 is above most competitors in terms of performance.
However, the experience lacks the emotion and sharp handling response of the top rivals. The chassis is its greatest strength, with tightly controlled body movements and appropriate dampers that put it on par with sports sedans and luxury sedans.
The S4 is very precise and easy to control; it’s precise steering, excellent cornering stability and firm grip on the asphalt increased our confidence for the torpedo on ramps—but also drove quietly around town. While the brakes are very responsive, they are sensitive at city speeds. Floating feedback also interferes with fun on twisty sections of the road where the brake pedal is too soft.
The engine has been part of the Audi lineup for some time and is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, which transmits power to all four wheels via the Quattro all-wheel-drive system. All of these numbers are pretty sure for decent real-world performance.
The engine power figures are not like the AMG C 43 Sedan and M340i but are quite fast. Most importantly, engine refinement and responsiveness are top-notch. There’s no lag when accelerating hard and, according to Car & Driver in 2018, this transmission delivers lightning-fast gearshifts but only minimal lag when shifting with paddles mounted on the steering wheel.
0-60 miles per hour comes in 4.4 seconds and it takes about 12.8 seconds to complete the standing quarter mile.
2022 Audi S4 MPG
The S4 sedan is expected to deliver 20 mpg in the city and 28 on the highway. 2022 Audi S4 Trim
Audi S4 is offered in three trim levels: Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige. All trim levels are powered by the same powertrain and are driven as standard on all four wheels. The Basic Premium configuration starts at $50,500 and offers luxury and decent electronics.
The seat is leather-covered and can be electrically adjusted up to 8 levels with waist support and is also equipped with multi-level heating and massage functions. Other important features:

While the S4 comes with a powerful powertrain that’s right for everyone, we’ll pay extra to upgrade from the base Premium model to the Premium Plus model, which has a longer list of standard features and fallback options. not available.
The latter includes a Black Optic package and dark exterior details and dark 19-inch alloy wheels on high-performance summer tires. Likewise, the S Sport package (red brake calipers, adaptive sport shock, and rear differential with vectored torque) is unlocked from the start.
