2019 Audi R8 GT
2019 Audi R8 GT welcome to audicarusa.com discover New Audi sedans, SUVs & coupes get our expert review. After introducing the rear wheel of the R8 V10 RW, FRANKFURT motor show last month, AUDI now I saw more evidence of the future derivative of its naturally aspirated supercar. Judging from the rear wing, it seems to be based on the flagship of the V10 Plus version, but with sportsmanship marked a notch if we had to rely on the wrong rear end.
Probably visible from the moon, the fat-typical oval tailpipes for a Audi RS model-appear to cover a similar system of smaller extremities. The exhaust finisher has not only changed its shape, but is now flanking a redesigned diffuser with four vertical fins. All of them are part of a new rear bumper, which seems to contain a horizontal slat on the top of the diffuser.
Another major change compared to the R8 V10 Plus is the continuous mesh pattern, which extends from one corner to the other, unlike the standard model where it does not extend to the central area where the license plate sits. This could be a sign of an updated engine that needs additional cooling, so the 5.2 liter FSI unit could beat more than 610 horsepower (449 kw) is obtained in the Plus model. We already know that the engine is able to deliver more Oomph, as it produces 640 HP (470 kw) in the Lamborghini hurricane performer.
We could be looking at a R8 GT in manufacturing, presumably a limited edition as was the case with the homonymous version of the previous generation illustrated above. That one had more power wrapped in a lighter package and are offered as Spyder too.
This will not be the end of the R8 expansion as an entry-level variant is reportedly in the works with a biturbo 2.9-liter V6 engine borrowed from the RS4 Avant and RS5 coupe. We could see it as soon as 2019.
The Audi R8, which has a version of 610 horsepower Plus, is not exactly in the extreme need for additional performance. But based on these new spy photos, it seems to be exactly what Audi is working on, and we will not try to dissuade them from doing so. It can even be a very limited production return, Hardcore, R8 GT, last seen in 2012.

There are not many changes on the outside of the car, which is damaging to the argument that this could be a R8 GT. The frontal fascia and flanks appear to be identical to the normal R8 in fact. The old R8 GT at least offered a couple of additional bolts on the front for better aerodynamics.
On the back, the car seems to have the same wing as the R8 Plus, which is similar in shape and size as the old R8 GT. The rear grills also look different. The actual openings appear larger and closer to the rear wing, and the mesh pattern looks as if it could extend behind the rear license plate. The diffuser is also new, and looks a little wider. Now it also includes oval exhaust tips. The oval extremities have frequently been a signal on Rs Audis, so maybe this R8 could carry a RS badge. Our spy photographer tells us that the escape was very noisy, too.
