2019 Audi R6 Interior

Through the camouflaged layers on this prototype we can see the new R6 will have a similar front end to the latest A8 and recently revealed A7. The old model’s rounded grille has been replaced by a much sharper hexagonal item while the new car’s headlights are wider and thinner than on the outgoing model.

At the rear, we can see this estate prototype doesn’t come with the full-width brakelights like its larger A7 and A8 cousins. Instead it gets a pair of taller, more angular units – reminiscent of those on the smaller A4. When the camouflage comes off, you can expect a pair of fake chrome exhausts to feature somewhere on the new car’s bumper, too.

No images have appeared of the new R6’s interior but it should borrow a few bits and pieces from the luxurious A7 and A8. A digital display (what Audi calls its Virtual Cockpit) should replace conventional analogue dials across the R6 range while a pair of large touchscreens on the dashboard will let you tweak everything from the stereo volume to the temperature of the heated seats with a swipe of your finger.

The Avant estate model shown in these photos is tipped to have a larger boot than the outgoing 565-litre model but passenger head and legroom aren’t expected to change drastically over the already spacious outgoing model.

2019 Audi R6 Engine

The new R6 will be built using a modified version of the A8’s MLB chassis which will help make it as much as 100kg lighter than the old car. It’ll be powered by a range of four and six-cylinder engines – including a 2.0-litre petrol e-tron plug-in hybrid model and a 2.0-litre diesel hybrid using electric turbocharging technology previously fitted to the SQ7.

All R6s are expected to come with either a seven or eight-speed automatic gearbox and a raft of autonomous driving tech. This means it’ll be able to accelerate, brake and steer for you in traffic at up to 37mph.
