That clarifies what the 2024 Audi S5 series delivers to the table in comparison to corresponding A5 versions.
This year, the S5 remains available in coupe, convertible (Cabriolet), and hatchback (Sportback) body types, with each receiving extra standard amenities such as driver aid, parking assistance, and remote engine starting.
Depending on the body style, you might save up to $10,000 by selecting the Audi A5 over the sport-tuned Audi S5. However, you would forego a more powerful turbocharged V6 engine, a sport-tuned suspension, and larger front brakes. The Audi S5 accelerates faster as well, trimming approximately a second off the sprint to 60 mph.
The interior of the S5 vehicles has also been updated, with greater seat bolstering, diamond-stitched leather, and a massage function. What We Think
It’s interesting that we’re discussing the 2025 Audi S5 with all sorts of changes. As well as receiving a Bang & Olufsen sound system for the mid-Premium Plus trim the Black Optic package has been replaced by the Black Optic Plus package which now includes black rocker sills, rear spoiler, exhaust tips, and darkened Audi badges.
Adaptive cruise control is now included with the Comfort package of course with a cozy interior with red stitching and RS carbon trim bits.
2025 Audi S5 Update
A prototype for the next generation of the Audi A5 Sportback has been spotted for the first time, in sporty S5 form. The current A5 line arrived in 2016, as a 2018 model year. The redesigned generation, including this S5 Sportback, will arrive later this year or early next year, as a 2025 model.
The S5 Sportback prototype is heavily camouflaged, but the general shape of the vehicle and some of the finer details such as the inside of the headlights and the grille design can be clearly seen. The four exhaust tips and large wheels and brakes confirm that this prototype is an S5 variant and not an A5.
Underlying this vehicle is supposed to be an updated version of parent company Volkswagen Group’s MLB Evo platform found on the current A5 lineup, which means longitudinal engine mounting and standard front-wheel drive. The current S5 uses a turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine with 349 hp. It is expected that this engine will be carried over to the new generation, possibly with help from a mild-hybrid system.
This time, the A5 line will be expanded to include an Avant wagon option. The A5 Avant will replace the current A4 Avant as part of Audi’s naming strategy change. The new strategy announced in March will see models with internal combustion engines have odd numbers in their names, and electric models have even numbers in their names.
Prototypes for the new A5 Avant and S5 Avant have also been spotted. However, don’t expect that the A5 and S5 sedans will replace the existing A4 and S4. Instead, Audi is expected to launch the A4 E-Tron electric sedan to appeal to buyers of the traditional three-box sedan.
Eventually, Audi will exclusively offer electric power across its entire range. The automaker has confirmed that it will stop launching new models with internal combustion engines after 2026.
2025 Audi S5 Sportback
This one is still very much in demand in the market with its muscular Turbo V-6, angular carving moves, and rich interior. The tidy S5 Sportback impresses on twisty roads and, while its powerful powertrain can go fast, its delivery feels a bit stunted.
The S5 uses the same turbocharged V-6 coupled to an eight-speed automatic transmission that pushes power to Audi’s Quattro all-wheel drive system.
The S5 hatchback’s large liftgate makes loading cargo easy but compared to the mechanically identical S4 sedan, the Sportback’s rear legroom is less spacious. That’s the price of style, and the slick S5 Sportback has plenty of that.
On the new Black Optic Plus appearance package, we expect the S5 Sportback to include more black elements like a black spoiler and exhaust tips. Adaptive cruise control is added to the optional Convenience package.
2025 Audi S5 Interior
Inside the Audi S5, the expected changes come with materials that are soft to the touch, feel expensive, high-quality finishes, and a user-friendly design.
Up front, both the driver and front-seat passengers are treated to comfortable and roomy seats that are power-adjustable, while rear-seat riders have only the minimum acceptable space.
Meanwhile, the S5’s interior starts with a conservative yet modern dashboard design combined with laser-tight precision. In addition, every S5 includes luxuries such as front seats with heating and massage functions, three-zone climate control, and a start button.
Infotainment and Connectivity
Every S5 is equipped with Audi’s latest infotainment software, which is displayed on a high-mounted 10.1-inch touchscreen. The system can also be operated via voice recognition and steering wheel controls, but the intuitive rotary controller in the center console has been improved.
Along with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, the S5 can be equipped with a slick-looking 12.3-inch fully digital gauge cluster, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a 705-watt Bang & Olufsen audio system.
Technology
The graphics on Audi’s 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system are clear and bright. Audi’s Virtual Cockpit, a fully adjustable digital instrument panel, can display practically anything with as much information as you desire.
The navigation system is basic and easy to use. The voice controls work well, and while they aren’t completely conversational, the commands are near and have a wide range of tasks. Smartphone interaction with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is standard.
Storage
The cargo area under the hatch in the back of the S5 Sportback is spacious. The rear seats’ 40/20/40 split helps provide versatility for odd-sized goods. The cargo area is free of intrusions, and the load height is adequate.
The cabin’s storage for minor goods is barely adequate. There are two little pockets in the middle console area that can hold a phone, keys, or credit cards.
The middle console bin can hold a wallet and other small items, but nothing larger. Because the cupholders are on the small side, don’t expect to stop for a Big Gulp.

Performance
We drove a four-door hatchback, the S5 Sportback. The turbocharged V6 has plenty of power, even if it isn’t immediately explosive off the line. Once underway, acceleration is quick, steady, and pleasurable.
Our S5 Sportback test car accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds in Edmunds’ track testing. The brakes do a good job of bringing all that speed to a halt, with reasonably fade-free performance in dynamic conditions, but they’re also easy and smooth to use on a daily commute.
The S5 is also capable around corners. The optional S Sport package was installed on our vehicle. It combines the best of all-wheel-drive traction with the responsiveness of a rear-wheel-drive vehicle. The dynamic steering in the S5 also feels perfectly matched to the drive mode setting you’re in.
Comfort
The S5 Sportback’s balance continues to astound us. Comfort is just as important as performance. The front seats are extremely supportive and comfortable, and the available heated and ventilated elements operate quickly.
The simple climate control accurately maintains the cabin temperature, and the fans aren’t too loud, even on high.
The optional adaptive suspension in the S5 is a superb option because it provides exceptional attributes in a variety of situations. Comfort mode easily smooths out bumpy interstates and broken pavement, while Dynamic mode controls body motion during enthusiastic driving. At all speeds, the S5 is relatively quiet and well-isolated from road and wind noise.
2025 Audi S5 MPG
With the powerful Audi S5 v-6 turbocharged engine and standard all-wheel drive, one might think the S5 coupe and cabriolet have the not-so-great fuel economy.
While the fixed roof version gets an EPA-estimated 24 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway choosing the convertible will reduce the city and highway ratings by 1 and 2 mpg respectively.
We tested both body models on a 75 mph highway fuel-efficient route, which is part of our extensive testing program, and the coupe returned 30 mpg while the cabriolet earned 32 mpg.
2025 Audi S5 Price
We’d go for the Audi S5 Premium Plus coupe. Convertibles are wonderful, but in the S5’s application, the cabriolet is slower and costs an extra $8600 at every trim level.
The Premium Plus trim is a nice compromise between options and price, with standard features including Audi’s Virtual Cockpit display, blind-spot monitoring, passive keyless entry, a 360-degree camera, wireless charging, and more leatherette surfaces throughout the cabin.
We also like the racier appearance of the carbon fiber inside accents, and we’d be negligent if we didn’t optimize the performance of our S5. The MSRP range is $56,800 – $64,200, and it includes adjustable dampers, a torque-vectoring rear differential, and red brake calipers.

Verdict
The S5 is well-balanced in terms of performance and luxury. It’s a stunning vehicle both inside and out, with simple controls. If you want to take it on twisting roads, it’s actually pleasant, and it doesn’t sacrifice comfort or luxury. It’s not perfect the design limits back passenger space and sight, and the top-tier Prestige model is a little pricey but it’s a strong contender in the class.
