A lushly cultivated basin, which is guarded by mountains rising on three sides, is a cultural pastiche consisting of the Austrian, German and Italian influences of Bolzano. Q3 proved to be quite successful here and in September of this year Canada sales BMW X1 was just the second.
Nevertheless, there were some improvements required in Q3 to stay competitive against the Germans BMW and Mercedes ‘ GLA, as well as other best-selling places like the Infiniti QX30, Volvo XC40 and Range Rover Evoque. The first generation Q3 is criticised for its lack of interior space and being among the least powerful in its segment. The second generation turns to 2019 to handle this quibbles and more.
The use of the Volkswagen Group’s modular-width matrix platform increases up to 4,485 mm in Q3 ‘s length, 97 mm, or 3.8 inches, longer than its predecessor and 18 mm wider. The rear seats have grown to 1,525 liters with maximum cargo space (up to 1,365) and rear seats slide in front and aft by 150 mm (5.9 inches) or more for leg room or body area. This puts only slightly behind the segment leading X1 ‘s 1,549 litres and preceded by GLA, XC40, QX30 and Evoque.
The better finished in the Iine, the more mature cabin space than its predecessor, the more closely similar Audi’s top-of-the-Lıne Premium sedans. Buyers can choose between the basic model, or an Audi design or S line interior package with leather and Alcantara suede surfaces in regular or sport bucket seats. The more adventurous the new Alcantara-coated Gauge cabinet, the contrasting shades such as armrests and A-pillars can opt for burnt oranges.

The new Q3 has a standard 8.8-inch touchscreen on a sophisticated new drive-centric cockpit and central stack, replacing the previous primitive line with the free standing graphic display, replacing the analog indicators with the 10.25-inch display. Top-level clips can upgrade Audi’s virtual cockpit, mm navigation plus a 12.3-inch screen.
Instead of the Mmy Rotary controller located in the console, the driver uses more ergonomic-friendly multifunction rollers on the steering wheel to access different connection functions or to invoke different views on the information screen. Models can also ask the question, which is the voice control with better voice recognition, which comes with the “natural language ” so that it pauses the bidding options, and even when stopped. With the link portfolio of Audi “Tools ” can be “Learn ” through previous journeys suggesting the driver’s preferences, roads, real-time traffic information, filling stations, points of interest and even existing parking spaces. The package also includes a Wi-Fi hotspot with the ability to add data packets to mobile devices.
An optional Audi Connect navigation and InfoPath Plus package adds Google Earth, using high-resolution satellite images to display very realistic 3d navigation maps. With the Myaudi app, a customer can send navigation routes directly to the vehicle. The driver leaves the car and walks on foot, and then you can switch back to the phone smoothly. The application also performs typical functions such as remote launch, check the status of the vehicle, find cars, import a smartphone calendar, and look after climate control.
There is a long list of convenience and security technology, including driver assistance systems such as Adaptive Cruise Assist, traffic jams, active Lane assist, cross-traffic alert, and park Assist-steers which car into and out of the parking areas. The four cameras provide visual awareness 360 degrees-the driver can scroll across various viewpoints displayed on the wide infotainment screen. The split screen of the backup screen shows a shooting view when it returns to the wheel of the vehicle – a real help by measuring proximity to the curb.
Like most Audis, Q3 feels very well put together, despite its position as an entry-level model in the SUV’s portfolio. There would be little wind or road noise without permission into the beautifully crafted cabin, and even if you could easily strangle it with the 15 speaker Bang & Olufsen Premium sound System.

Four engine options are available worldwide, including three petrol and one diesel option. We’ll get two and both 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. The company’s familiar unit with a 190 Hp/236 lb-ft of torque, the other has a new 258 horsepower and 251 pound-foot version of this package carries the lower Q3, the power-wise, the top. GLA only packs more punches in this group than the Mercedes-AMG’s 375 HP Variant.
Three transmissions are available for European models-six-speed manual for diesel variants, eight-speed automatic, and S-tronic dual-clutch seven-speed S-line models – but we need to make only eight-speed automatic in North Americans. Our testing tools, however, are limited to the dual-clutch S-Tronic, which quickly moved to a fixed, clean shift, but was a bit reluctant while pausing. The paddle shifters made it easier to use the turbo-four available torque to access the VW GTI.
All vehicles are available for testing S line outer package, large 2.0 L engine, top-spec Special Edition models with flat bottomed steering wheel, and drive Select dynamic machining system instead of sport suspension with controlled damping.
The setting is ideal for the agility assessment. In some places, the roads themselves have no place for a very strict vehicle yet, but we often had maneuvers that allowed hatchbacks and even trucks to pass through the fold upon themselves. The Q3 is one of those tools that drives smaller than the wide track and Quattro all wheel drive, where it looks thanks to the standard in Canada.
Torque 258 lb-ft, the engine input response is fast, and the tighter switchbacks are uphill power while we did most of it. Using the Drive Select button, you can choose between six different profiles that change the drive, suspension damping, throttle response and transmission comfort, fuel efficiency, fast and sporty cruising shift. With my driving partner laser sharp Progressive steering pleasure, I found a bit on the light side, even if I employ sport mode.
In general, Q3 is a very nice executed small crossover. The S5 is probably a better choice for small families and those who need a little more benefit, have risen to Q3 ‘s internal space, and should put the rest of the Premium subcompact crossover segment in power notification. 2019 Audi Q3 should arrive in Canada Showroom early next summer, prices are available near the date of sale.
