BMW New 1 Series is on the horizon at the end of 2018, but Audi will also have a new challenge ready to take the form of the latest A3. The popular Hatch will debut in Hatchbacks, saloons and eventually in the form of a Coupé.
The A3 is one of the UK’s best-selling premium models thanks to its range of models, finish levels and propellers covering all bases. So don’t expect the formula to change radically for the fourth generation car, with an evolutionary style to align it with the latest A4 as our exclusive images show.
Like the next Volkswagen Golf MK8, the next A3 will use the VW Group’s upgraded MQB platform, but it is also configured to grow slightly to allow more space inside. Don’t expect the same weight savings from generation to generation as the A4 as a result, but you could still have a few pounds shaved while Audi engineers work their magic.
Styling-wise, one should not expect miracles of the following-generation family of Audi A3. As these representations of Christian Schulte Show, the A3 and A3 Sportback are Sport front ends that seem quite similar to the current A4 (especially the headlights). The Sportback A3 is the most visually distinctive model of the family and will borrow design signals from the A5 Sportback and A7 Sportback.
Under the skin, all next-generation Audi A3 models will be based on an updated version of the MQB platform that the VW Golf MK8 also use. As a result, the A3 will be a little larger to allow for more passenger and baggage space. The interior must present a design similar to the A4, as well as the technologies that include greater availability of the virtual cabin, the load of wireless smartphone, and a WiFi hotspot.
However, we can expect that much of the same internal technology has been drafted from the A4. Virtual booth Intelligent Digital dials must be available throughout most of the range, while other features like wireless smartphone charging and a WiFi hotspot are likely. Whether or not we will see some of the intelligent autonomous technology that is ready to debut in the upcoming Audi A8 is to be seen. However, the design of the dash is unlikely to be too different from the A4.

The use of the MQB platform means that there is a range for a wide variety of engines that are offered. Many will be updated from the existing (and still not obsolete) units, with three-and four-cylinder Turbo gasolines and diesel on the cards. A super-frugal plug-in hybrid model E-Tron will push the figures of the claimed fuel economy event more, while it is expected that the electric system of the brand 48-Volt could be used to create a number of “soft hybrids ” models. Of course, there will also be cooking S3 and Super-Hot RS3 variants for 2020 and beyond.
We are waiting for the new A3 to be previewed at the end of next year before it reaches the showrooms in the first half of 2019. The prices will probably increase slightly over the current model, so they expect to pay around £20,000 for the entry-level cars.
